A Blessing at the Spring Equinox
By Rose Alba
We ask a blessing as the year comes of age
As the young Sun comes into his strength
And completes his initiation,
Wrestling with darkness, equal to equal
Tipping the balance, seizing victory
And running with it, exultant, to greet his beloved!
See how his Lady bedecks herself
With lily, daffodil and furled new leaf,
How she shakes her skirts and tosses her hair,
Her laughter ringing across hill and valley,
swooping and trilling, lowing and bleating,
Rejoicing with her love!
Now is the time of rising sap,
Of busy nests and leaping hares;
With bird and with beast, with tree and with flower,
May the blood in our veins join the dance of Spring!
